  • The United States is a vast country that encompasses more than 3.5 million square miles (nine million square kilometers) and is home to more than 281 million people. This immense diversity makes it the ultimate country to take an RV road trip through!
  • Forty-eight of the country’s 50 states are located in the central portion of North America.
  • Washington, DC, is the capital city of the United States.
  • To the east is the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west is the Pacific. Canada forms the northern border of the United States, while Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico lie to the south.
  • The United States also includes the states of Alaska, located in the northwest corner of North America, and Hawaii, a series of islands in the Pacific Ocean.
  • The country's landscape is as varied as you’d expect such an immense region to be. Views our your motorhome window will include mountain ranges running through both the eastern and western areas of the United States; prairies and farmland making up much of the central part of the country; towering mountains and broad river valleys in Alaska; and rugged, volcanic topography in Hawaii.
  • It’s the world's third-largest country by size (after Russia and Canada) and by population (after China and India).
  • Mt. McKinley is highest point in North America and Death Valley the lowest point on the continent.
  • Comparatively, the U.S is about half the size of Russia; about three-tenths the size of Africa; about half the size of South America (or slightly larger than Brazil); slightly larger than China; and more than twice the size of the European Union.
  • Its land boundaries total 12,034 km. Border countries: Canada 8,893 km (including 2,477 km with Alaska), Mexico 3,141 km. The US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is leased by the US and is part of Cuba; the base boundary is 28 km.
