Basking in the beauty of the glorious Rocky Mountains, from ranch lands to ski slopes, dense forests to rushing rivers, the Mountain Region is an awesome home to wildlife and a rewarding destination for RV travelers.
Although it's known for its soaring snow-capped peaks, the Mountain Region encompasses much more. The culture and scenery is diverse and typical of the Old West with its American Indian heritage, residents in cowboy attire and vast open landscapes. National parks and wilderness areas preserve ancient landscapes that harbor bison, bears and other species rarely seen elsewhere.
Skiing is the favorite pastime, but when the snow melts the spectacular scenery, with mountains and lakes and many national parks, provides a backdrop for spectacular drives in your RV, matched by an array of activities such as fishing, white water rafting, horseriding and more. Discover ghost towns, watch a rodeo, hike gentle paths or backcountry trails, all against the magnificent Rocky Mountain backdrop.
Want to glimpse some of the best sights that Montana has to offer? There's no better way than hitting the 50 mile stretch known as Going-to-the-Sun in Glacier National Park. The park boasts some remarkable natural landscapes from towering mountains to crystal clear waters, and evidence shows that the first human inhabitants of this area arrived about 10,000 years ago. Originally inhabited by native tribes this area beckoned to European explorers looking for pelts. The area was soon settled by miners and the completion of the Great Northern Railway in 1891 meant more migrants to the area and new towns popping up in Montana. Area residents like George Bird Grinnell pushed for a national park to be established to protect the surrounding landscape, a successful bid that means we can enjoy the splendors of Glacier National Park today.
Just about an hour and a half outside of Denver is one of North America's most breathtaking roads, literally. Driving on Mt Evans Road up to 14,260 ft (4346 m) - you may find both yourself and vehicle heaving for oxygen. However, spectacular views abound so make this part of your holiday when you visit the US Rocky Mountains. Note that this road is seasonal and closed during winter.
