Barcelona Motorhome Holiday
Barcelona many not be the capital of Spain but it is the capital of culture and packed full of things to do and places to visit. It has something for everyone from beaches and shopping to art and history, it’s also has some great restaurants and entertainment venues at night. Walk along La Rambla from the Placa Catalunya to the port and pass street artists and café’s along the way. The area around the city also has some very pleasant beaches, small towns and villages to explore making it an ideal base for a longer holiday and not just a short trip for visitors with campervan hire.
Services for Motorhome Rental vehicles
As you would expect from an area popular with tourists, there are 8 parking Areas near the city that are suitable for motorhomes, however there are also others just outside which offer park and ride services. As Barcelona is on the coast there are also many campsites both to the north and south which have full camping facilities and also offer good transport links by bus or train into the city. This is probably the best option as the Area tend to be very urban.
Top things to see and do
Take an open top bus tour. A bit touristy, yes, but it’s the best way of seeing the must see sights, its also good value for money. Hop on and off as you wish and get some background information on the places that you may or may not want to return to another day
Sagrada Familia. On the bus tour and one of Barcelona’s landmarks. Gaudi’s cathedral is still unfinished (work is in progress) but absolutely incredible with façade’s in many different styles and amazing spires. Visit the interior which contains the museum from where you can see the crypt where Gaudi lies and his original 3D hanging model of the building.
One for the girls. A little difficult, do you want to do same shopping, there are so many great shops here, or perhaps visit somewhere beautiful like the Palau de la Musica Catalana ? Most cities have great shops so we’ll go with something beautiful. The Palau is a concert hall but its decoration is another reason to visit. There are finely decorated columns and an amazing stained glass ceiling.
One for the boys. You could choose the Olympic port down at the sea but perhaps the Museu del FC Barcelona is more interesting. The most visited museum in Barcelona, this one is dedicated to the beautiful game and has every kind of memorabilia possible, you can also visit the 120,000 seater stadium.
Just for fun…take the cable car. Go to the top of the Castell de Montjuic for a panoramic view over the city and then take the cable car back into the port.
Barcelona is one of Europe’s best city’s to visit, there are so many things to do and lots of choice for visitors with a motorhome rental or campervan hire, it’s got to be one of the places to stay on a tour of Spain.
